Are You Change Ready?

Dear Reader,

Change Leadership. That’s the name of what Lancaster Leadership has been doing for 14 years. Organizations are prioritizing “fast and nimble” as a primary strategy for the next 3 years (Deloitte, 2026). Here are the 10 areas that you might be experiencing change at work:

  1. Strategic
  2. Structural
  3. Process
  4. Technological
  5. Skill & Role
  6. Cultural
  7. Work Environment
  8. Leadership
  9. External/Market
  10. Personal

When the future is unknown, stress is a common response, but it doesn’t have to be. An exercise to do with your team is to take this list and ask 1) Which changes are we currently experiencing? 2) Which one give you the most excitement? 3) Which give you the most anxiety?

Once we bring the anxiety from the recesses of our minds to the forefront of conversation, we can figure out action plans, together. These days, the pace of change is considered constant and overlapping instead of in waves. I’d love to know what you are doing to maintain a sense of wellbeing as well and being fast and nimble.

Dear Reader, I couldn't see the audience because of the stage lights. Every once in a while, my lip would stick to my teeth because I was getting the dry mouth of nervousness. It's my turn with the mic at the Moth GrandSLAM with 9 other AZ winners from the past year. 5 years ago, if you would have told me that I would be standing on a stage in a storytelling competition sharing a word-for-word memorized story about dancing with my daughter before she launched to Paris, I would have had so...

Dear Reader, After 25 years together, we went to happy hour and had nothing to talk about. It seemed that we had discussed everything there was to discuss, planned everything that needed planning, and had become quite unpracticed at introducing new and interesting topics to each other. In the heart of Mexico City, we had just ordered some expensive purple lemonade fancy drinks, and had 59 more minutes to fill. “We know all the big things in each other’s lives, but probably not the details....

Dear Reader, I’m standing in the cafeteria that doubles as a gym after the tables are folded up. It’s third period, and it’s dodgeball season. The teacher picks team captains and then lets these overly empowered 8-year-olds determine the fate of the rest of us. Each time, the boys get picked first. And then Toni Lombardo, because she’s strong and not afraid. Each time I pray to be picked. I try to act like I don’t care, but I care so very much. The game starts and celebrates aggression and...
